In the early 1860s, the Five Points district of Lower Manhattan is a lawless haven controlled by ruthless Nativist Bill "The Butcher" Cutting. Sixteen years after his father's brutal murder at Bill's hands, Amsterdam Vallon, an orphaned Irish-American, returns to avenge his death, but finds the area has changed and he must navigate its corrupt hierarchy to achieve his goal.
