A group of scientists successfully clone Mew, the greatest Pokémon, but the clone, Mewtwo, is bitter about his existence and kills his creators. Mewtwo then issues a challenge to the world, seeking to prove his superiority by battling other trainers. Ash and his friends are among the few who pass the initial test and prepare for battle, only to discover Mewtwo's sinister plan to clone more Pokémon and reshape the earth.
