Tomoya, a production assistant, is devastated by the news of his friend Aoi's death in a California air crash. He reminisces about their friendship, which began when he tried to bribe her away from her job at a record store to be near her co-worker. Aoi, however, saw something in him and cast him in a leading role in her student film, "The End of the World." As they worked together, their platonic friendship deepened, with Aoi taking the lead role when her original actress refused to do a kissing scene.
