In the small town of Trapper Falls, Alaska, successful attorney Mitch Bright returns home after 20 years to find his high school rivals, the Reed brothers, building a nativity scene on city property. Mitch files a legal injunction, citing separation of church and state, and decides to run for mayor against his rival Dan. As the campaign heats up, Mitch accuses Dan of forcing Christianity on the town and goes on a rant against all Christians. However, a judge rules in favor of the nativity, and the Reed family decides to focus on the true meaning of Christmas, spreading kindness and goodwill throughout the town.
