In 1933 South Philly, a 12-year-old boy named Gennaro lives with his widowed mother and ailing grandfather. The grandfather holds onto his last quarter, promising it to Gennaro, who wants to use it to buy a movie ticket. However, the grandfather has unfinished business with a woman from his past and asks Gennaro to act as his messenger.
