A gun-runner, Caine, arrives in a Sudanese coastal town, wounded and broke, after losing his latest shipment. He befriends a drunk doctor and a street urchin, and catches the eye of a suspicious inspector. In need of cash, Caine joins a research ship crew, led by Professor Mallare and his daughter Anna, despite rumors of the ship being cursed.
