A truck driver, Pat Quid, embarks on a long haul across Australia, encountering a cast of characters along the way, including a hitchhiker named Pamela. When Pamela vanishes, Pat's curiosity gets the better of him, and he becomes convinced that a suspicious van driver is a serial killer. His investigation, however, attracts the attention of the police, who start to suspect him of the very crimes he's trying to solve.
