During the Korean War, a Navy photographer and his team occupy a Tokyo geisha house, unaware that four girls are living there. Initially, they misunderstand the geishas' occupation, but romance soon develops. When the photographer's tongue-in-cheek remark about fighting for Japanese orphans gets publicized, the Navy investigates, and the sailors and geishas decide to create a temporary orphanage by posing local children as orphans. The ruse succeeds, and thousands of Americans donate money, leading to the establishment of a legitimate orphanage. The story concludes with a double wedding between two sailors and two geishas, with the remaining two men considering similar arrangements.
