A 10-year-old girl named Estrella makes three wishes, with her first one being for her missing mother to return, which miraculously happens. However, her mother's return comes with a twist - she's deceased and now haunts Estrella everywhere. Frightened, Estrella joins a gang of orphans affected by violence, only to discover that the dead are never truly left behind and that her wishes are distorted by the brutal reality she's now in.
