In 1921, an expedition in Egypt uncovers the tomb of Prince Im-Ho-Tep, an ancient Egyptian prince who was buried alive for sacrilege. The team also finds the Scroll of Thoth, which has the power to revive the dead. A young expedition member accidentally brings Im-Ho-Tep back to life by reading the Scroll aloud, and he becomes insane.
