A mysterious being, Imitation, takes the form of a young woman and is taken in by Iranian immigrants in the American Southwest. As she learns about her new body and companions, she appreciates the beauty and sadness of her new world. Meanwhile, Julianna, Imitation's earthly double, navigates her life as an entertainer in New York City, struggling with relationships and preparing for a dream audition. When Imitation discovers Julianna's existence, she travels to New York, and the two must sacrifice themselves to each other to complete their portrait of a woman and find fulfillment.
