In 1349, the Black Death ravages northern Germany. A family of traveling performers arrives in Hamelin for a royal wedding, amidst greed, corruption, and ignorance. A Jewish apothecary searches for a plague cure, but is accused of heresy and witchcraft by the Priests. Meanwhile, a mysterious minstrel offers to rid the town of rats, but the Mayor reneges on the deal, leading to devastating consequences.

In 14th century Hamelin, a town ravaged by the Black Plague, a mysterious flute player employs his enchanted instrument to eliminate a rampant rat problem. However, when the townsfolk neglect to fulfill their promise, the piper exacts a dreadful revenge by summoning away the town's children.
