Aspiring artist Mirabelle Buttersfield struggles to make ends meet in Los Angeles, working as a clerk at Saks Fifth Avenue and struggling to pay off massive student loans. She feels disconnected from her job and colleagues, and her chronic clinical depression makes it difficult to cope with her solitary existence. Two men enter her life, offering her a chance at romance: Jeremy, a laid-back amplifier salesman and font designer, and Ray Porter, a wealthy and charming businessman. While Jeremy seems unaware of how to treat her, Ray is upfront about his lack of commitment, which Mirabelle sees as a sign of his true feelings.
