Izzy Maurer, a saxophonist, is shot and severely injured, losing a lung and experiencing hand damage. He becomes depressed and isolated, but his ex-wife Hannah invites him to dinner with her husband and a film director, Catherine Moore. There, he learns about a planned film remake in Dublin. After a mysterious encounter with a dead man and a briefcase, Izzy becomes obsessed with uncovering the truth. He meets Celia, a waitress and aspiring actress, and they fall in love.
