Solange, a depressed woman, has lost her appetite and smile. Her husband Raoul tries to save her by hiring a stranger, Stephane, as her lover. Despite Stephane's efforts, Solange remains unresponsive, finding solace in knitting and housework. Despite everyone's advice, including a vegetable vendor, that she needs a child, Solange fails to conceive with either lover. The three take a job at a summer camp, where they meet Christian, a 13-year-old boy who brings Solange back to laughter.
