Rick Penning, a 17-year-old rugby player, is sent to juvenile detention after his second drunk-driving conviction. His father leaves him there, and Rick struggles to adapt. Despite his struggles, he's introduced to the Highland Rugby Team, a team known for their state championships. Their coach, Larry Gelwix, teaches boys to become champions in life before on the field. Rick is skeptical, but needs to change his attitude and life by his 18th birthday to avoid serious consequences.
