Kent, the ruthless boss of Bottleneck, kills Sheriff Keogh after he questions a rigged poker game that gives Kent control over local cattle rangers. The mayor, in league with Kent, appoints the town drunk, Washington Dimsdale, as the new sheriff, unaware that Dimsdale was a deputy under Tom Destry and can call upon Tom Destry Jr as his deputy.
