Set against the backdrop of World War I, a diverse group of women leave their normal lives behind to pursue a new calling as nurses in France, showcasing their unwavering dedication to providing aid and comfort to those in need.

American women from diverse backgrounds join a volunteer nursing unit in France during World War I, driven by a mix of duty and a desire to be near the men fighting overseas. As they care for the wounded soldiers, the nurses must put their own comfort and safety aside. The soldiers, homesick and uncertain about their futures, seek female companionship, but the nurses' expectations are not always met.
