Waking Dream background

Waking Dream

Faced with the constant threat of deportation, young individuals living without legal status must navigate a precarious existence, balancing the risk of forced separation from their families and communities against the elusive promise of a legal pathway to permanent residency.

Undocumented young people, who came to the US as children, face uncertainty between deportation and a path to citizenship. The 2012 DACA program allowed 800,000 of them to work, attend college, and pursue their dreams. After the program's rescission in 2017, they risked losing everything. The film follows six young people as they fight for legal status, cope with family deportations, and chase their dreams in a country that's pushing them out.
