Samir, a sous-chef in Manhattan, quits his job after being overlooked for promotion and told his cooking lacks soul. He plans to take an unpaid internship in Paris, but his father's heart attack forces him to return home and run the family's struggling Indian restaurant in Queens. With no experience cooking Indian food, Samir's situation becomes dire when the chef quits, and he turns to Akbar, a cabbie claiming to have cooked for British royalty in Bombay.
