In the 1970s, a teenage girl from the San Fernando Valley transforms into Joan Jett, a guitarist determined to create an all-female punk band. With the help of a dubious manager, she assembles a group and finds a 15-year-old singer, Cherie Currie, who also fits the desired image. The band, known as The Runaways, embarks on a tour and signs with Mercury Records.
