The story takes place in and around Aokigahara Forest, a popular destination for suicide at the base of Mount Fuji in Japan. Sara Price, an American woman, receives a call from the Japanese police telling her that her troubled twin sister Jess is likely dead, as she was seen entering the forest. Despite her fiancé's concerns, Sara travels to Japan to investigate, meeting a reporter named Aiden at her sister's hotel.
