James Boyce, an American producer, and his wife Amber rent an English country mansion, where a British horror film "Smoke Rings" was shot 20 years prior. The property was arranged by Henry Harris, a middle-aged lawyer who still grieves for his lost love, Mandy Mason, a model-actress who died under mysterious circumstances after starring in "Smoke Rings". As they watch the film on TV, Harris notices Amber's erratic behavior mirroring events from her mother's past and the movie's plot.
