A doctor heads to the Afghan front, while his wife, also a doctor, refuses to join him and threatens to divorce him if he leaves. Their son becomes extremely attached to a hamster his father gave him and spends a lot of money on its surgery. The hamster is then kidnapped by a recently paroled car thief. The boy's sister and her boyfriend must work together to find the hamster, who gets into various misadventures and becomes the star of a TV show, causing trouble for the producers.
