Legendary hydroplane champion Pop Gunner prepares for his final racing event, mentoring his son Lee to succeed him, amidst a backdrop of intense rivalry with wealthy and cunning competitor Gregg Stevenson.

Aging champion hydroplane racer Pop Gunner prepares for his last race, handing the reins to his son Lee. However, his nemesis Gregg Stevenson, a rich and arrogant rival, is having an affair with Pop's daughter Linda and plans to win the race by any means necessary. As the Grand Prix unfolds, Pop and Gregg engage in a thrilling competition, but a tragic accident leads to Pop's death. Lee becomes consumed by his hatred for Gregg and falls in love with Gregg's daughter Connie, who is torn between her love for her father's wealth and her disdain for his character. Meanwhile, Gregg's actions ultimately lead to the downfall of those around him, including Linda, who discovers she is pregnant with his child and is forced to consider an abortion.
