On June 6th, 1944, D-Day, a telegraphist named Patrick Thomas boarded a Royal Navy landing craft, LCH 185, which would be part of the first wave on Sword Beach. Two weeks later, the craft was struck by an acoustic mine and sank, taking most of the crew with it. Patrick was the only survivor.
