Sabina Spielrein was a young Russian-Jewish woman who became the first patient of Carl Gustav Jung at the Burghölzli clinic in Zurich in 1904. She was 18 years old at the time and formed an intense attachment to Jung, who was 29 and married. Despite this, Spielrein went on to become a psychoanalyst herself and was practicing alongside the founding fathers of psychoanalysis within eight years.
