A stiff English officer, Captain Charles Edstaston, and his fiancée Claire arrive in St. Petersburg, where Edstaston seeks an audience with Empress Catherine. After a series of misadventures, Edstaston finds himself in the empress's royal bed, and must then navigate his way out of the city with his fiancée.
