Adam Hayward, a successful defense lawyer, travels to England to help his war buddy, Baxter, who is accused of murdering a stable-hand. Hayward learns that a witness, a young woman named Sandy, can testify that Baxter acted in self-defense, but she is reluctant to come forward. As he works to uncover the truth, Hayward becomes suspicious of Sandy's father, Colonel Summerfield, and his daughter-in-law, Alex. Ultimately, Hayward manages to bring the family together and helps Sandy come forward, leading to a dramatic conclusion.
