Luis, a middle-aged man, travels from Barcelona to Segovia to bury his mother's remains in his family's vault. He stays with his aunt Pilar in her old house, where he spent his childhood summers. There, he reunites with his cousin Angelica, his first love, who is now married with a daughter. As he reminisces about his childhood during the Spanish Civil War, his past and present become intertwined.
