Los, a free-spirited dreamer, becomes fixated on being watched by Aelita, the daughter of the ruthless Martian dictator Tuskub. After a series of events involving his wife's murder and a detective's pursuit, Los assumes Spiridonov's identity and builds a spaceship to join the revolutionary Gusev on a journey to Mars.
