In a remote Argentine valley, a family of three, including a school owner, a doctor, and their 12-year-old son, live in voluntary exile from Buenos Aires. Their peaceful life is disrupted by the arrival of a jaded Spanish engineer who is surveying the land to determine if it can be dammed for hydro-electric power, which would force the local peasants to leave their homes and move to the cities.
