The Adventures of Pinocchio background

The Adventures of Pinocchio

A 1976 anime series, co-produced with ZDF and ORF, brings Carlo Collodi's classic children's book to life, following the story of a wooden puppet's quest to become a real boy.

In a small Italian village, a poor old carpenter named Geppetto creates a marionette that comes to life, naming him Pinocchio. Pinocchio becomes the son Geppetto never had and begins attending school. He meets a sly fox and cat who convince him to join a puppet show, and he becomes a successful performer. However, the fox and cat manipulate Pinocchio into planting his earnings in the "Fields of Wonder," which turns out to be a scam. Pinocchio is tricked again and again, but eventually, he meets a fairy who helps him escape from the fox and cat. After a series of misadventures, including being turned into a donkey and sold to a circus, Pinocchio learns the importance of good deeds and ultimately becomes a real boy.
