Wings of Freedom background

Wings of Freedom

A young Orthodox woman, Arefa, struggles with her own identity as she's pushed to marry at a tender 23 years old, amidst the constraints of her lower-middle-class family.

Arefa, a 23-year-old introvert, struggles with inner and outer conflicts as she's pressured to get married by her family. Her life takes a turn when she meets a stranger at a bus stand, who asks her to take care of herself. She finds courage and confidence, but her family's pressure remains. She's forced to see a boy for marriage, but he refuses to meet her privately, leaving her feeling unworthy. Arefa finds solace in a diary and begins to long for freedom. She starts to approach the boy at the bus stand, and they share smiles. She decides to propose to him, but he gets on the bus, revealing he was talking to another girl on the phone, not Arefa. Crushed, Arefa returns home to find her parents have arranged a less desirable marriage for her. She refuses to see the boy and decides to leave home, determined to live the life she imagined.
