In 1998, Zubin Mehta conducts and Zhang Yimou directs Puccini's "Turnadot" in Beijing, following a successful production in Florence the previous year. The documentary focuses on the elaborate production in China, featuring a large set, hundreds of extras, and elaborate costumes and props inspired by the Ming Dynasty. Mehta and Zhang work together to bring together different cultures, with Mehta's Indian roots and European training blending with Zhang's Chinese perspective. The film shows rehearsals, production work, and interactions with the singers, crew, and local officials as they work together to overcome challenges and bring the opera to life.
