Selah lives in a secluded community with no modern technology, where she's been raised by Shepherd, her guardian, teacher, and lover. As she approaches womanhood, she begins to question her faith and experiences strange, bloody visions. The community's move to a new location is forced by an encounter with the authorities, and Selah's first glimpses of the harsh realities that await the community's women as they age leave her with a growing sense of doubt.
