Lucky Jim background

Lucky Jim

A struggling professor-to-be, Jim Dixon, faces the harsh realities of academia, questioning his own ambition as he seeks to impress his demanding mentor, Welch, to secure his position.

Jim Dixon's life is a struggle, forced to cater to the whims of his absent-minded and uninspiring professor, Welch, to secure his job. His relationships are equally unfulfilling, stuck with Margaret Peel, a neurotic and unexciting woman. The only solace is the local pub. However, his misery is compounded when he's trapped at a disastrous weekend gathering with Welch's boorish son, Bertrand, who brings along Christine Callaghan, the captivating and elusive woman Jim can only fantasize about.
