In a small Oklahoma town, a high school student named Cal, who is a book-smart and gangly teenager, navigates his coming-of-age journey alongside his widowed mother. His father, a former wrestling champion, died in a car accident ten years prior. Cal's estranged older brother Mike, also a former wrestling champion, is struggling at 28 and initially rejects Cal's request for help. Despite this, Cal persists in his efforts, seeking guidance from an enigmatic old man named Red, a quirky friend named Luli, and his mother, who has her own opinions on the matter.
