The docudrama follows the career of Lieutenant Colonel Vladimir Vetrov, a KGB agent known as "Farewell", who betrayed his organization by providing France with valuable scientific and military secrets, including a list of KGB agents, after growing disillusioned with his superiors due to his forced recall to Moscow for his drinking problems.
