Kim Sun-ho, a horn player in North Korea's orchestra, lives a comfortable life with plans to marry his girlfriend Yon-hwa. When his grandfather in Seoul sends a letter, they risk everything to defect to the South, but Sun-ho must leave Yon-hwa behind. Heartbroken, he tries to save money to help her escape, only to discover she's married another man.
