Field of Operations: Leningrad background

Field of Operations: Leningrad

From September 1941 to January 1943, the city was under siege for 16 months, with the Wehrmacht initially cutting it off and the Soviet army ultimately breaking through with a narrow supply route.

The 872-day siege of the city began on September 8, 1941, when the Wehrmacht cut off the last road to the city. Despite Soviet forces opening a narrow land corridor on January 18, 1943, the Red Army did not lift the siege until January 27, 1944. This blockade was one of the longest and most destructive in history, resulting in significant casualties.
