Zoe Black is a renowned filmmaker and educator who masterfully crafts captivating narratives through striking visual storytelling. Their critically acclaimed short documentary, GIRLY, is a vibrant celebration of queer femininity, earning the prestigious Best Documentary Short Film award at LesGaiCineMad 2024, a Goya Award qualifying selection. As a writer, Zoe showcases a remarkable talent for crafting relatable, relationship-driven comedies and dramas, with their feature project pitch, MOLL, winning First Prize at B3 HessenLab 2024. Inspired by the true story of 17th-century pickpocket Moll Cutpurse, MOLL is a testament to Zoe's ability to breathe life into historical figures. Their latest narrative short, Queer & Confused, takes audiences on a memorable journey as two friends navigate a night out in 1980s London. Additionally, Zoe's unscripted web series, Styled by Strangers, premiered on YouTube in July 2025, showcasing their versatility as a director.
As a scholar, Zoe holds an MFA in Film & TV Production from the University of Southern California and a BA in English Literature from the University of Cambridge. Their academic credentials are complemented by their experience as a lecturer in production and screenwriting at Central Film School, where they share their expertise with aspiring filmmakers.
