Kanchiku Yuri, a former film student with an unwavering passion for the art of film and cinema, was born in 1982, a child of the early eighties. She pursued her academic ambitions at Nihon University College Of Art, where she majestically studied film, her heart and soul consumed by the craft. After graduating in 2006, she set out to hone her skills, focusing intently on the intricacies of lighting and composition, and drawing inspiration from the esteemed Iwai Shunji and Miyagawa Kazuo.
As she honed her craft, Kanchiku had the privilege of working alongside her mentor, serving as his assistant while simultaneously cultivating her skills in radio production. Under his guidance, she continued to learn and grow, eventually making her feature film debut with "My Rainy Days", a cinematic masterpiece based on a mobile phone novel that has since garnered a devoted cult following. The film's premiere at the prestigious Tokyo International Film Festival solidified her reputation as a rising talent in the industry.
However, in an unexpected turn of events, Kanchiku became somewhat reclusive following the release of her debut film, opting instead to work on various projects, including an AKB48 girl group video and a short film, the latter of which was shot on location in South Korea. Despite her temporary hiatus from the spotlight, she has continued to remain busy, working tirelessly on her second feature-length film, as well as commercials and music videos.
Today, Kanchiku divides her time between Tokyo and Yamanashi, a picturesque prefecture located to the west of the capital, where she draws inspiration from the serene landscapes and vibrant culture. Her dedication to her craft and her unwavering passion for filmmaking have cemented her status as a talented and innovative filmmaker, and her future projects are eagerly anticipated by fans and critics alike.
