Younes Megri was born on November 15, 1951, in the vibrant city of Oujda, Morocco. He embarked on a musical journey, studying at the esteemed Moroccan national conservatory of music in Rabat, as well as at the renowned Ecole Normale de Musique de Malesherbe in Paris. At the outset of his career, he performed alongside his siblings in a group, Les Frères Megri, which aptly reflected the shifting musical landscape in Morocco during the late Sixties.
As his career progressed, he composed a song, "Leli Touil", which catapulted him to fame in the Arab world and Europe, and was even performed by the group Boney M and the French singer Maria De Rossi. This remarkable achievement earned him a Golden Record, and he took the stage at the iconic Olympia in 1985, solidifying his solo career.
In the following decades, Megri expanded his creative horizons by composing film music for both Moroccan and international films. Notable among these works is his collaboration with Gabriel Axel on "Leila la pure" and "8MM", for which he worked closely with Michael Dana as a consultant.
Ahmed Boulane, a prominent Moroccan casting director, began to promote Megri as an actor during the Nineties. However, it was Boulane's first feature film, "Ali, Rabia et les autres" (2000),that showcased Megri as a leading man in Moroccan cinema, propelling him to the forefront of the Moroccan film industry.
