William Troughton, born on October 4, 1984, is a member of a renowned British acting dynasty. His grandfather, Patrick Troughton, was a notable television Doctor Who, and his father, David, uncle Michael, brother Sam, and cousin Harry Melling, who is an actor in the Harry Potter series, are all part of the acting profession. William's mother, Ali, is a former actress.
William, affectionately known as "Wigsy," the Wise One, has been an avid cricketer since the age of eleven, playing for the Stratford 1st XI in the Birmingham Division. At one point, he seemed likely to follow in the footsteps of his brother, Jim, who is the captain of the Warwickshire County Club. However, at the age of fourteen, William decided to pursue a career in acting instead, often financing his endeavors by working on boats.
In 2012, William took over the role played by Peter Sellers in the UK stage tour of "The Ladykillers." He has also appeared in the West End in "The Woman in Black" and received excellent reviews for his one-man show "Private Peaceful" at the Bristol Tobacco Factory. Since November 2014, William has been acting alongside his father, David, playing the roles of father and son farmers in the radio serial "The Archers."
