Biography

William Graham Browne, later known as W. Graham Brown, was born in Ireland in 1870, and went on to become a renowned theatre star of the West End and Broadway. His impressive career spanned many decades, with notable performances including the 1909 production of 'Penelope' at the Lyceum Theatre.

He continued to shine on stage, taking on the role of 'David Bliss' in Noel Coward's 'Hay Fever' at the Ambassador's Theatre in 1925. His dashing good looks and charismatic stage presence earned him a reputation as a handsome and dapper performer.

In addition to his extensive work in theatre, Brown also ventured into the world of cinema, albeit briefly. He appeared in a single silent film role as 'Lord Burlington' in the 1915 USA movie 'Mrs. Plum's Pudding', directed by Al Christie and starring his then-wife Marie Tempest for the Nestor Film Company.

Throughout his career, Brown played mostly supporting roles in a few English films. His first film role was 'Pignolet' in 'The Lady Is Willing', released in 1934 and directed by Gilbert Miller, starring Leslie Howard. This may have been his most notable film appearance, and indeed, his last, as 'Dr. Kurt Broman' in the 1937 musical drama 'Moonlight Sonata', starring American actor Charles Farrell and the renowned pianist Ignacy Jan Paderewski.
