Volkmar Leif Gilbert, born Volkmar Welzel in 1991 in Königs Wusterhausen, Germany, grew up in a small town near Berlin, where he was surrounded by the arts from a young age. He developed a passion for singing, playing instruments, and being on stage, which was nurtured through his involvement in school productions.
As he pursued his professional acting career, Volkmar began his education at Schauspielschule Charlottenburg in Berlin. His first role was in Kai Stänickes short film "It's consuming me," which premiered in San Francisco and won several awards at various short film festivals worldwide.
After completing his acting school in 2012, Volkmar started performing in children's theatre productions in Berlin and producing short films, including "Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along-Blog in 60 seconds" and "Serefe." From 2013 to 2018, he appeared in numerous stage productions, often featuring musical elements to showcase his singing talent.
Some of his notable stage credits include "Frühlings Erwachen" at Schauspielbühnen Stuttgart, "Harold & Maude" at Theatersommer Ludwigsburg, "Cabaret" at Kammertheater Karlsruhe, and "Die Fete endet nie" at Boulevardtheater Dresden, which has been successfully running since 2016.
In 2019, Volkmar made his television debut in the German soap opera "Rote Rosen" (ARD) as Laurenz Merz. He continued to work on various musical productions and engagements in Dresden. In 2021, he founded his own theatre group in Berlin and directed his first stage productions.
Volkmar has also expanded his career into dubbing, taking on leading roles in the German versions of "I lost my body" (Netflix),"Words bubble up like soda pop" (Netflix),and "Richard the Stork 2" (2023, Wildbunch). His diverse talents and interests are also reflected in his work as a writer, director, teacher, and member of the BFFS.
