Vince Wilburn Jr. was born in 1958 in Chicago, Illinois, USA. As the nephew of legendary jazz icon Miles Davis, Wilburn has made a name for himself as a highly accomplished drummer, producer, and radio host.
Throughout his career, Wilburn has worked on several notable projects. He served as an Executive Producer on the Emmy Award-winning documentary Miles Davis: Birth of the Cool (2019),'Round Miles: A Miles Davis Documentary (2021),and Miles Ahead (2015). Wilburn also oversaw Miles Davis Properties, LLC, alongside Erin Davis and Cheryl Davis.
As a drummer, producer, and radio host, Wilburn has had the opportunity to tour and record with Miles Davis on many legendary recordings from 1984 to 1987. Some of these recordings include the GRAMMY-Award winning album "AURA", "Decoy", "You're Under Arrest", and the 2008 GRAMMY-nominated "Miles From India", which reached #8 on the Billboard jazz charts.
Wilburn also toured internationally with the All-Star "Miles From India" ensemble to sold-out crowds. In addition to his work with Miles Davis, Wilburn has served as a producer on the feature film "Miles Ahead" starring Don Cheadle and Ewan McGregor. The "Miles Ahead" soundtrack won a GRAMMY for "Best Compilation Soundtrack for Visual Media".
As the bandleader and drummer of Miles Electric Band, Wilburn has performed to sold-out crowds at various venues, including the SF Jazz Center, Billboard Live in Osaka and Tokyo, Australia's Blues Fest, Lotos Jazz Festival, and the Hollywood Bowl.
Wilburn was also instrumental in putting together the record-breaking cross-genre release "Everything Is Beautiful", a reimagined project produced by GRAMMY-winning artist Robert Glasper. The project features contemporary artists paying tribute to the classic work of Miles Davis and scored impressive first week chart numbers.
Wilburn has also been a key participant on industry panels at the GRAMMY Museum, GRAMMY Career Day, SXSW, SF Music Tech Summit, Mondo NYC, and CBGB's. He has also partnered with Apple for their "Meet The Musicians" series at Apple SoHo and is a co-host of Miles Davis House at SXSW with Erin Davis.
As an active member of NARAS, Wilburn continues to make a significant impact in the music industry.
