Villi Hermann, a Swiss filmmaker, was born in Lucerne, Switzerland, and currently resides in Lugano. He pursued his educational endeavors at the prestigious London Film School (LSFT) and subsequently gained valuable experience working for Swiss television. Hermann's filmography began with documentary films, showcasing his versatility and ability to seamlessly integrate documentary and fiction elements. His notable film, San Gottardo, earned the esteemed Silver Leopard award at the 1977 Locarno Film Festival.
As a pioneer in his field, Hermann ventured into fiction filmmaking with Matlosa in 1981, donning both directorial and production hats. This milestone marked the inception of his own production company, Imagofilm Lugano, which he founded in the same year.
Throughout his illustrious career, Hermann has been actively involved in various film-related organizations, including the Association of Swiss Film Makers (ARF/FDS),the Association of Swiss Film Producers GARP, and the Association Film and Audiovisuals Ticino AFAT. His membership in the European Film Academy further underscores his commitment to the art of filmmaking.
