Biography

The remarkable biography of Veruschka, a model and actress, whose life was marked by a complex and tumultuous past. Born to a Prussian count, Count von Lehndorff-Steinort, who was tragically involved in a plot to assassinate Adolf Hitler in 1944, and subsequently hanged that same year, when Veruschka was just three years old. Her mother, arrested and imprisoned, left Veruschka and her sisters to spend the remainder of World War II in Gestapo camps.

After the war, the family was reunited, but their lives were forever changed. Destitute and ostracized by other Germans for their father's perceived treachery, Veruschka and her sisters were forced to start anew. It was during this time that she discovered her passion for textile design, studying in Florence, where a fashion designer first recognized her striking features and asked her to model.

Veruschka's journey to stardom was not without its setbacks, however. In 1961, she traveled to New York as simply "Vera," but failed to secure a single booking. Undeterred, she retreated to Milan for a period before returning to New York, where she would eventually take the stage by storm under her new and iconic name, Veruschka.
